Has it been a month already? May has been a total shit show for my day to day and as a result the writing always suffers. I had minor surgery, had my day job fall apart due to some poor management choices, and the stress of work caused my healing to backfire, and I got an infection (looks to be minor so not a whole lot to worry about but still adds to the pile.)
So here I am, looking at my incomplete word count goal for May and struggling between disappointment in myself and cutting myself some slack. The story is progressing in a direction I did not really consider, but this is my process. I hit my major plot beats but, oh my, do they change along the way. My story is character driven and this past month Curt took the wheel and drove me into a thicket I didn’t know existed. For anyone who has read my novel (so just betas at this point) knows that the first installment follows Sol Vesper, but in order to flesh out the overall story I had to dedicate chapters to other characters in the second novel. Both new and familiar faces drive this narrative, some I am so excited to share with you and others that betas have requested to know more about. (Yes, I listen to the masses.) So, if you become a fan when the inevitable publication of this story reaches you, please give me your feedback. I’m not saying I will do as you ask, but I will always consider it. Speaking of publications, I have decided to go ahead with publishing these beasts myself with the backing of an aggregate. It was a tough call, but honestly finding an agent feels so futile. I don’t even think most of them read my sample pages. I also don’t have a gimmick and that’s what most of them want. I also probably had a very fantasized view of these people who are literally judging my work on how well they can sell it. Anyways, enough about the hardships of the publishing industry. I’ll be going through a consultation with a publisher to see if they are what I’m looking for and from there I’m hoping to get the ball rolling on the editing process. If you haven’t already checked out my page on the Aeternum Series, please do! It’s under The Works in the menu and you’ll get a snapshot of the Aeternum universe and the back copy of Dawning of the Sun.
